Agios Konstantínos - Sarakíniko

Evaluation: This hike should actually follow the hiking trail indicated on the map. Unfortunately, it is almost impossible to find any traces of this trail, which turns this hike into an adventurous trip. The hike thus demands quite some experience, because you often walk along the rugged and rocky coastline. For the final part of the hike there is hardly any description possible, so you basically have to try and find the correct route all by yourself. On the way you pass two beautiful sandy beaches, which are usually very peaceful. At the final destination you arrive at the beach of Sarakíniko, which is really worth a visit! The hike leads you over different kinds of terrain and all the way you have a great view over the sea and the coastline. The hike still deserves an evaluation of ***!

Estimated time: The actual walking time of this hike is about 2.5 to 3 hours, depending on your pace on the rocky coast. It will cost you this amount of time to hike from the turn to Agios Konstantínos to the beach of Sarakíniko.

Route description: On the road to Pollónia, about one km before the beach of Papafrágas and at the sign to Agios Konstantínos, you take the small concrete road on the left. After 100 metres you pass a house on the left-hand side and you continue straight ahead. Some 200 metres later you reach a junction and you go left, following the signs Beach and Alogamándra. Slightly thereafter you keep to the left again and in this way you arrive at the church of Agios Konstantínos. On the left of the church you follow a path in natural stone and you thus get to the beach. You follow the tide line until you reach the other side of the beach. Over there you can climb on the rocks again and you continue by walking over these rocks – staying as close as possible to the sea. After about 75 metres, at the deepest point of the tiny bay where the sand is softer, you go up the slope for some 20 metres; you then take a right on a small trail. About 5 minutes later the trail comes to an end at a small gorge in the sea. You go straight ahead for a short while and you then curve towards the sea, until you notice the large and hard strip immediately next to the sea. You follow this strip for about 10 minutes until the strip gets narrower. At this point you should go up slightly and then you should take a right in the direction of the house with blue window frames.

[If you do proceed straight ahead, you should bear off to the left a little further down – because you get to a bay. In this way, you will also reach the house with the blue window frames.]

From there you follow the sandy path in the direction of the following beach. You walk over the large beach to the far end, where you take a left on the sandy road. Some 50 metres further you arrive at a bend, where you take a right. You thus get to some rough terrain and it is impossible to give a decent description of the remainder of the trail. The best thing to do is to stay as close as possible to the coast; you will then reach the beach of Sarakíniko automatically. Along the way, you pass a wrecked ship. After about 2.5 to 3 hours since your departure, you thus reach the beach of Sarakíniko. You can easily recognise the beautiful white rock formations and the magnificent little beach.

You notice a small concrete road going up from the beach; you can follow this road to walk to the main road, or to the parking place (in high season there are buses coming to this parking place).
