Walk on Páno Koufoníssi

Evaluation: This small island with a surface area of only 3,8 km² and one single village is definitely not very spectacular, but it can be the objective of a peaceful visit from Amorgós. A short hike leads you to a couple of nice little beaches, situated in picturesque bays.
You can also combine a visit with a trip to the islands of Schinoússa, Irakliá or Donoússa, where you will then have to spend the night. Everything depends on the time schedule of the Express Skopelítis. If you would really like to find some rest, you would better go off season, because also on this island a lot of houses are being constructed along the coast – in order to let them during summer. In fact, these construction works do disturb the wild character and the quiet of the trail along the coast.

Estimated time: You should count on about 3 hours of actual walking time, up and down to the bay of Porí and then, past the village, to the charming harbour of Parianós. In between you can enjoy some swimming or sunbathing.

Arriving in the little harbour.

Route description: From the small harbour you walk through the village and you go to the beach – from the harbour you can also take a right and walk directly to the beach.

At the eastern end of the beach you follow a concrete road between the houses; this road runs to the southeast and it soon becomes a gravel road. After some 10 minutes you reach the first of the three small bays of the bay of Charakópou – in the first bay you find the beautiful beach of Fínikas.

The rocky coast.

From here onwards you can take a trail that leads to various small bays and beaches and that eventually arrives at the large bay of Porí.

[Some 7-8 minutes past the 3rd bay of Ormos Charakópou you notice a natural, heart-shaped bath on the right, the so-called “swimming pool". The water is marvellously warm...]

[On the cape just before the Ormos Poríou, some 150 metres before the wall bordering the beach, there is a small plateau on the right, with a nice view over the bay. South of this plateau you find a cavity, which is called "Devill's eye".]

[Also at the bay of Porí you can continue and follow the waterside to the other side of the bay. On the tongue of land northeast of the bay you can walk to the far end of the tongue (so to the east). You will then pass a remarkable, kettle-shaped cavity, surrounded by tall rocks – the locals call this "Cleopatra's bath".]

Towards the bay of Porí.

From here you could follow the coast further to the north, but it is a better idea to go back the way you came until you get to the village and the harbour. From there you can continue in the other direction (so, to the west), on a gravel road. You thus pass the cemetery, with a chapel and a windmill next to it.

The entry of the cemetery, with the windmill.

In this way, you will soon reach the small harbour of Parianós, a really picturesque spot. You can then walk back the same way and at the harbour you can wait for the Skopelítis.
