Livádi - Livadákia - Rámmos - Kaló Ambéli and back

Evaluation: If you want to walk from Livádi to the beautiful beach of Kaló Ambeli, you can follow this walk.
The beach is really beautiful, but there is absolutely no shade - an excursion not to do in summer! Deserves **.
[The translation of this walk was made with some help of Google translate - so, do not mind the mistakes...]

Estimated time
: It takes approximately 1h10 to reach Kaló Ambeli, and the way back requires the same time.
The actual walking time thus amounts to a total of about 2h30 (AWT) - we walked from half past eleven up to 5 hours (TWT), with a break of an hour and a half on the beach.

Route description: (0u00) You start in Livádi from the seaside, with its cafés and restaurants, and you are going towards the pier. Just past the Alpha Bank and before the car rental agency Krinos, you climb the stairs to the right. You pass in this way to the right of the pleasant Hotel Aretí and the rooms Kristy; from above, you descend the stairs in the direction of the splendid beach of Livadákia.

[On the pier, there is still a sign that says that a British newspaper has awarded the prize for "most beautiful beach in Europe" to the beach of Livadákia...]

The pleasant shaded beach of Livadákia.

You walk along the many tamarisks and you pass the nice campsite; just beyond the campsite, at the end of the beach, you go straight on a sandy track.

(0h15) On the top, you again arrive amidst the apartments/rooms - they more or less hidden the passage to the beach of Karávi, formerly a calm nudist beach. A few minutes later, the road describes a sharp right turn and then, you continue straight ahead, while disregarding exits or cross streets. Near some houses and just after the tavern Kambía, you keep to the right and you get so to the asphalt road where you take a left.

(0h29) A little later, you take a left, to follow a small concrete road to Rámmos (road sign). Already after 2 minutes, you arrive near the church dedicated to the Panagía – in front of the church, there is a shady and cool courtyard with benches and a table, a nice quiet place, even in summer.

You continue straight and you do the same a little further – so, you do NOT take a right. Your road becomes a small gravel road between walls. You pass a source (with the date 1955 and with a tap with fresh water!) and continue straight. The road is concrete now, you cross a crossroad and you go straight up on a concrete road that continues to the left of a wall.

(0h38) Careful now: where the concrete becomes gravel and where the road becomes wider, you should take a path between walls, which continues to the right of the little road and a little higher – by the way, the road comes to a dead end a little further.
After 8 minutes on this nice and easy trail, you get again to a gravel road, which you follow straight.

The path to Kaló Ambéli.

(0h46) This gravel road is quite nice, with to the left a very wide view over the sea and on the island of Sífnos; after 7 minutes, it gets to a crossroad, to the right of some buildings and a large hangar. You take a right and the gravel or concrete zigzags down.
You are already seeing the beach down on your left, but you continue straight until the third valley, where the road ends more or less.

The beach of Kaló Ambéli.

(1h05) To the left, there is a staircase, painted in white, that descends in a river bed full of oleanders. You then follow a very clear path on the right slope of the small valley. After 4 minutes, you pass to the right of a closed church, and you continue down and to the left, until you reach the beautiful sandy beach. (1h10)

The sea is deep blue, but there is no shade at all! At the end of the beach there is a small cave.

(1h10) The return route is self-evident and some indications will do:

- you take the path that goes up, but you keep to the right, after 2 minutes, near a breach in a wall
- near the small church, you still keep to the right, in the direction of a small white building, to the left of a power line
- you follow the river bed, you climb the stairs and you reach the small gravel road
- the climb on the little concrete road that follows is difficult; you get to the wider road, where you take a right
- (1h32) you follow this road for 5 minutes, but 30 meters BEFORE the hangar, you take the narrow gravel track on the LEFT, between two walls in natural stone. You climb slowly in a very arid landscape
- (1h46) after 9 minutes, this road comes more or less to a dead end, near a field strewn with typical Greek rubbish: the old trail continues between walls in front of you

The way back to Rámmos.

 - (1h53) once arrived at the gravel road, you go left, you pass the source, and a little further, you take of course a right, towards Rámmos
- near the Panagía, you can take a rest, sitting on a bench on the beautiful square
- you then continue straight through the village
- (2h02) you take a right at the asphalt road.

[You may continue on the main road until Livádi - it will take about 14 minutes.]

If you want, however, to follow the same route as you came, you should almost immediately take the small road on the RIGHT (to the left of the gate!). After a while, there is the sharp left turn and then you continue between the houses to the beach of Karávi. You go down the sandy track to the beach of Livadákia; at the end of the beach, you go up the stairs, then you go down the other stairs and you arrive at the port of Livádi. (2h31)
