Evaluation:
This hike is marked as walk [3] , but it is the only walk on the island
of Sérifos causing problems.
The beginning is unequivocal, but the trail passes after about 20
minutes near a farm which is still inhabited (in summer): the owners say
firmly that the path does not continue.
We could hardly force our way, and we stopped there hiking ...
[The
translation of this walk was
made with some help of Google translate - so, do not mind the
mistakes...]
Estimated time:
This walk has lasted for 21 minutes only (AWT), then we retraced our
steps ...
Route description:
The trail starts to the left of the asphalt road from Chóra to Koutalás,
about 1,5 km beyond the small road that leads on the right to Agia
Thékla - this road is marked with a marble road sign...
The little road sign to Agia Thékla.
(0h00) The beginning of the
walk is well marked by a small sign [3].
Since there are very few busses to Koutalás, it is better to rent a car
or motorcycle - you can leave it beside the road...
The obvious beginning of walk
[3].
The nice trail is obvious and descends with a beautiful view on the bay
of Koutalás .
Initially, the monopáti is covered with gravel, but later it becomes
more rocky, but there are all the time a lot of marks.
After a few minutes, you see the path continue to the left and down -
but you will not get so far...
After a total of 5 minutes, you pass a few miserable sheds,
then you start to go down on a
nice paved trail between walls.
Walk [3] descends
to Koutalás.

After another 3-4 minutes, you
get to a gravel road, to the right of a wide gate – there is no marking
at all!
(0h09) You take a right and
after 200 meters you reach the asphalt road where you go left - there is
a trail marker [3] on a pole.
After a few minutes already, there
is a small gravel road that goes up to the left, with road signs that
indicate the direction of the Aspros Pýrgos,
the White Tower.
[Pay attention: walk [3] does NOT pass next to the tower, but a detour
of 4 minutes can lead you near the remains of the tower,
next to the small church of
Agios Charálambos.
There you also enjoy a beautiful view of the conical height of the
Kástro tis Griás ( 228 m ), with behind it the wild massif of the Oros
and the summit of the Kefála, 509 m high .
Behind the Aspros Pyrgos, there
is a cemetery ...
You then return until the beginning of the small gravel road.]
(0h12) On the far left side
of the gravel road, there is a path, without any markup.
The trail is very obvious and goes down quickly - while describing a
little further two sharp turns.
The rolling stones make passage difficult.
After 6 minutes, you arrive in a small valley full of oleanders and tall
cacti (17 July 2009), then the trail continues to the left of a wall.
Trail [3]
is still very clear.
(0h21) Another 2-3 minutes
later, you arrive at the side of a still inhabited house: an old couple
came out right away and told us, with great conviction, that the path
does not continue and that you we could not
pass .
According to the map, the path
describes here a sharp turn to the right, but we retraced our steps...
[Another strange thing: when, back on the paved road, you follow this
road to the left, you will see after 12 minutes or 900 meters another
sign [3 ], in a sharp turn!
We did find an old mining road, but it does not lead to Koutalás.
There should be another path, according to the map, but we did not find
it...]
[In Koutalás, hike [3] arrives indeed near the south -west end of the
beach. There is a slope that leads to the main road;
if you go to the right (your
back to the sea), you find indeed a bit further, between two buildings
in ruins, the end or the beginning of walk [3
] - you
will discover a trail marker [3] on a pole…]
